Day 17 - Favorite mini series

Oh, now this is easy. North and South. Hands down, no question, no hesitation. North and South. The adaptation of the Elizabeth Gaskell novel, not the American Civil War miniseries. It's by far and away my favourite.

Did anyone else watch that Lost in Austen programme that was on the other day? I actually quite enjoyed it. I've always liked Pride and Prejudice and it was quite fun to see it turned on its head. I'll definitely be watching the next three parts.

Why is there so little Hornblower fic that focuses on Pellew? I'm not necessarily talking about the slash, although...well, you know me. But it seems like all the fanfic in the fandom is about Hornblower, Kennedy and Bush, in any and all permutations, which is fine, but...I want Pellew! Five minutes into this new adaptation of Persuasion and the camerawork is already driving me nuts. It's either ridiculously close up into the actor's faces or it's wobbling all over the place. Could they not afford a steadicam? It's one of my pet peeves, wobbly camerawork. I don't mind it in films where it seems appropriate, but in a period drama? ( Read more... )

Did anyone ever watch The Hanging Gale back in the day? It was a four-part BBC drama, oh, ten or so years ago now, about four brothers during the Irish famine, and starring all four McGann brothers and Michael Kitchen.
